2 HISBULLAH AGENTS SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS

An Azerbaijani court, on Monday 10/05/2009, found two Lebanese citizens guilty of plotting attacks on the Israeli embassy in the capital Baku, sentencing them for 15 years each in jail, a court spokesman said, according to AFP. “Lebanese citizens Ali Karaki and Ali Najmeddine were sentenced to 15 years each,” a court spokesman was quoted as saying.

According to him, they were preparing attacks on the Israeli and US embassies, as well as the strategic Gabala missile-detection radar station in the north of the country (see – Operation-Abroad).

The two were arrested in 05/2008. Illegal Iranian passports were used by the two Lebanese men. Ali Karaki and Ali Najmeddine were sent to Azerbaijan by Hidbullah leaders, sources in Baku said (see – Baku 05.31.09).

It is most likely that Ali Karaki and Ali Najmeddine were a part of a Hisbullah effort to avenge Mughniyah’s Death.

Ali Karaki, Ali Najmeddine and another Iranian citizen detained in Azerbaijan were released, unexpectedly, on Friday 08/13/2010, and sent back to Iran.
