BLAST NEAR U.K EMBASSY IN SANAA
Twin attacks involving suspected militants has taken place near the British embassy in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa and a compound of an Austrian gas firm, reports on Wednesday 10/06/2010, said.
Militants fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a British embassy car, slightly injuring one staff member as well as bystanders, officials said. The armored UK embassy car was said to have been carrying the deputy chief of the British mission in Yemen when it was hit by shrapnel from the blast. The UK Foreign Office confirmed there had been an “attack involving a British embassy vehicle”. It said there had not been any British embassy casualties.
In a separate incident, a security guard is said to have opened fire in the compound of Austrian gas firm OMV near Sanaa killing the locale French manager Jacques Spagnolo. The compound was surrounded by security forces and the gunman, Hisham M. Assem, was eventually disarmed, Reuters reported Reuters news agency said.
