ISIS TO GAIN BASE ON THE LIBYAN MEDITERRANEAN – SIRTE

libya-sirteAt least 25 people have been killed in clashes between Islamic State (ISIS) and a rival Islamist group backed by armed civilians in the Libyan city of Sirte,.the hometown of former leader Muammar Gaddafi . Most of Sirte, already fell to ISIS earlier this year. Islamic State group have beheaded 12 people and hung them on crosses during a battle for the coastal city of Sirte,

ISIS  is one of a number of groups battling for control of Libya and has made advances across the country.

Fighting broke out in a residential area of Sirte on Monday 08/09/2015 between Islamic State and a Salafist Muslim group backed by angry armed civilians.

It followed the death of a Muslim cleric who – along with others in the neighbourhood – had refused to comply with ISIS’s order for residents to pledge allegiance or face death, a local journalist told the Associated Press.

One report said I.S.I.S had taken back the neighbourhood, although this has not been confirmed.

ISIS faced a similar battle in the eastern port city of Derna in June – the first city outside Iraq and Syria to fall to the group – and was pushed back by an Al Qaeda affiliated group.

The Arab League is set to hold an emergency meeting Tuesday 08/17/2015 at the request of Libya’s internationally recognized government, which is under attack by Islamic State militants. Once Arab League met mainly to discuss all kinds of measures against Israel, Now it is almost to cope with ISIS threat to all !!! its members.

The Tobruk-based government asked for help from regional allies late Saturday 08/15/2015, including airstrikes.

A secure ISIS base in the Libyan Mediterranean coast is a preface to penetrate thousands of Jihadists to Europe in the ongoing flood of Muslim immigrants from Africa and the Arab World through Libya to Europe.

.There is an increasing risk of Libya becoming a haven for combatants from ISIS, even as western nations target the extremist militant group in Iraq and Syria, the French defense minister warned in comments published in early 12/2015. .
.
“We see foreign jihadists arriving in the region of Syrte (northern Libya) who, if our operations in Syria and Iraq succeed in reducing the territorial reach of Daesh (I.S.I.S) could tomorrow be more numerous,” defense minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told the Jeune Afrique weekly published on Saturday 12/05/2015.
