DEATH THREAT IN BELGIUM FOR SLAMMING ISLAMIC CODE
Death threats were being made against An-Sofie De-Winter, the daughter of one of Belgium’s leading politicians, after she posed in an anti-Islam advertisement, the Belgian media reported on 02/03/2012. An-Sofie Dewinter is pictured in the ad wearing a burqa and a bikini, donning the words “Freedom or Islam, you choose” (in Flemish, a Dutch dialect), (see also – Belge vote 04.29.10 ).
Her politician father, Filip De-Winter, has risked causing uproar among Muslims after starting a ‘Women Against Islamization’ campaign featuring his 19-year-old daughter wearing a burka and a bikini. He said he’s not using her for campaigning purposes, but that this was her free choice. The 20-year-old model said she’s not worried about the threats, saying, “I don’t think they’re serious. I hope not.” Filip De-Winter said: ‘Women are always the first victims of Islam. We want to make clear that they have a choice.’The potentially incendiary poster comes after The Islamic fundamentalist group ‘Sharia.4belgium’ was slammed for its aggressive stance. The group opened the country’s first Sharia court, a putting it on a collision course with the country’s nationalists (see – Europe-fears).
Sharia4Belguim was fined 550 Euros in January for inciting hatred towards non-Muslims. Moderate Muslims say they do not agree with the group’s hardline stance (see – Cultural Conflict).
