NEW MUSIC IN THE MIDDLE EAST

>–

walidSunni Saudi Arabia is in a very delicate situation. They run a war against Saada Rebels in Yemen, known as Houthis (Operation ‘Decisive Storm’); they support the Sunni rebels in Syria : Jabhat al-Nusra and even, in some degree,  the Islamic State; The Shiite minority in the Gulf, with strong ties to Iran is causing tension and concern; USA, in their eyes, sided with Shia Iran and signed with Iran a nuclear deal which will boost the Iranian Shia threat in many conventional ways and the prices of energy and gaz are dropping sharply to a degree that Saudi Arabia is running out, very fast, from its huge financial reserves; with the decrease of oil prices also the huge political influence on the world and regional politic is  evaporating and Saudi Arabia has no alternative economy than the oil economy. No doubt Saudi Arabia faces huge challenge, an enormous crisis and needs, fast, to change attitude and direction ( see – Shiite Arc ). ,

Saudi multibillionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal,  worth 32$ Billions and well connected to the Saudi Royal family, has said, in an interview to the  newspaper Al-Qabas, on Tuesday 10/27/2015 ,  “I will side with the Jewish nation and its democratic aspirations in case of outbreak of a Palestinian Intifada.” He also added: “I shall exert all my influence to break any ominous Arab initiatives set to condemn Tel Aviv, because I deem the Arab-Israeli entente and future friendship necessary to impede the dangerous Iranian encroachment.”

Regarding the foreign policy of Saudi Arabia, bin Talal said that “[Saudi] must reconsider its regional commitments and devise a new strategy to combat Iran’s increasing influence in the Gulf States by forging a Defence pact with Tel Aviv.” He continued: “I know that Iranians seek to unseat the Saudi regime by playing the Palestinian card. To foil their plots, Saudi Arabia and Israel must bolster their relations and form a united front to stymie Tehran’s ambitious agenda.”

Walid bin Talal comment is, no doubt, a strong indication to the change of mood in the Middle East. No more the Israeli Palestinian conflict as the epicenter of regional politic, the traditional scapegoat for Arabs problems but the Sunni-Shia tension headed by Iran on the Shia side and Saudi Arabia and Egypt in the Sunni side. A new music in the Middle East.
