– TURKISH SOLDIERS MISSING AFTER ISIS SUDDEN SHELLING
The Slemani Times reports that Islamic State (ISIS) fired over 300 120mm mortar shells at the Turkish camp in Bashiqa area about 23 kilometers from the city of Mosul occupied by ISIS.
The rocket fire was part of a broader offensive by the insurgents on Kurdish positions around the Islamic State stronghold of Mosul, according to Jabbar Yawar, the secretary general of the Kurdish peshmerga forces, and a general. He said six or seven rockets had landed inside it, hitting a part of the compound occupied by an Iraqi militia that Turkey says it is training to fight Islamic State.
The deployment of around 150 Turkish troops to the base earlier this month has strained relations between Ankara and Baghdad, which complained to the U.N. Security Council.
Earlier there were reports that four Turkish servicemen received light injuries in a rocket attack on the Turkish military base in northern Iraq. The Turkish installation came under fire as part of a larger offensive of ISIS militants on Kurdish positions north of Mosul.
.The powerful Shiite militia backed by Iran ‘Ketaeb Hezbullah’ also claimed responsibility for the attack via its TV channel Etejah, but did not specify how it managed to shell a base located over 100 kilometres (60 miles) north of the northernmost positions held by federal forces and allied militiamen. But the announcement is a clear Iranian massage to Sunni Turkey “take yourself out of Iraq’ it is our domain.
