– POLICE OFFICER IN U.S SHOT ‘IN THE NAME OF ISLAM’
A police officer in Philadelphia, Jessie Harnett, 33, was ambushed, on Thursday 01/07/2016 evening, by a man who pledged allegiance to the so-called Islamic State (ISIS), police officials have said.
The gunman, 30, using a gun stolen from police earlier fired at least 11 shots at the officer, in an act done “in the name of Islam”. Despite being shot, Officer Jessie Harnett left his vehicle and was able to to return fire, striking the gunman at least once.
The suspect escaped on foot but was apprehended by police shortly after.
“This guy tried to execute the police officer. The police officer had no idea he was coming.” Police Commissioner Richard Ross said.
The suspect, 30-year-old Edward Archer (pic), also pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group when he was questioned after his arrest in the shooting late Thursday, police said.
Surveillance images from the scene of the attack appear to the show the suspect wearing a long white robe, which ABC Philadelphia describes as “muslim garb.” Police Commissioner Richard Ross told reporters the next day, Friday 01/08/2016, the media that the suspect told officers that “police bend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the Quran.”
