THAILAND

THAILAND is an independent Buddhist country in Pacific Asia . The country has a population of about 60 millions people (03/2007), stretches on 513,000 km. The local regime is unstable and periods of corrupted democracy are replaced by corrupted military rule every few years.

The three southern provinces of THAILAND, on the border with the Muslim country Malaysia, were a Muslim Autonomy Emirate up to 1933. Than, according to an agreement between Great Britain, that ruled Malaysia, and the kingdom of Siam, today THAILAND – the three Muslim provinces in the south – Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, became an anexed part of Buddhist THAILAND.

It is estimated that about 2.7 millions Muslims, 80%  of the local population in these provinces and about 4.5% of the general population in THAILAND  are Muslims and speak their own version of Malay – Yawi.

In the last decade the Muslims of south THAILAND are struggling for autonomy and more than 2000 people were already killed. Most of the local Muslim insurgency is organized in the Patani-Raya separatist group.
