U.S & RUSSIA TO DEEPEN THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN MEAS”T WARS
–
The U.S.-led virtual coalition fighting Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) needs to take back the cities Mosul and Raqqa and will use “boots on the ground” as part of its strategy in doing so, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Friday 01/22/2016. speaking from Davos, Switzerland, in an interview on CNBC. It is obvious that USA now understand the limits of the Iraqi Army, comprised mainly of Shiite forces, to fight in Sunni inhabited areas and that Kurdish forces are too small for such missions and are more concerned about Kurdish independence than about recapturing Sunni Mosul or Syria’s Raqqa.
IN perfect trimming BBC reported that Satellite imagery appearing to show the US expanding a formerly disused air strip from 700 m’ to 1300 m’ perfect for helicopter gunships and special operation forces in Kurdish-controlled northern Syria near the town of Rmeilan
There are also reports that Russia is going to use another permanent air base in Syria and to expand its operations in the country.
The situation in the Middle East is unprecedented – Two Nuclear superpowers are fighting simultaneously in the Middle East. USA against the Islamic State while supporting other alleged “moderate” rebels in Syria and Russia is fighting those “moderate” rebels while ignoring the Islamic State, also simultaneously Turkey is fighting the Kurds while neglecting ISIS and all are claiming, simultaneously they are fighting the “World War on Terror”.
While in Mesopotamia Russia, USA and other powers are still deeply divided over the definition of the prime enemy and over the political solutions – in Libya and the Mediterranean Coast the objects are more obvious – to restore the Libyan governance and to stop the flow of emigrants to Europe. On Friday 01/22/2016 Dozens of British, Russian and American troops have arrived in Libya in support for the weak internationally-recognized government in Tobruk, London-based daily Asharq al-Awsat reported. The daily also said French troops are expected to arrive soon for the same purpose. Tobruk is in the East of Libya close to Egypt’s border and partially isolated from the rest of Libya, especially Western Libya
The officers and soldiers are currently stationed in Jamal Abdulnasir military base south of Tobruk where the parliament is holding its sessions in the city. Witnesses in the base, meanwhile, said the number of foreign troops mounts to 500 troops in the past three weeks, but a security official, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said they are just dozens.
However, a small group of Americans have arrived west of Tripoli, where the opposing government is.
On Friday, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford said a decisive military action is needed to halt the spread of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Libya, saying the group wanted to use the north African nation as a platform to coordinate activity across the continent.
A spokesman for Libya’s recognized government in the east told AFP it was requesting a “limited intervention by the international community to “protect oil fields from ISIS attacks.”
So far International intervention in both Syria and Iraq resulted with very limited success mainly because of the incompetence of the forces on the ground, It seems to be the same problem in Libya.
