The 21st Century Phenomenon

Yassin  Hassan Omar was born in Somalia in about 1980. He arrived with his older sister to U.K in 1992 as an asylum seeker from the anarchy and bloodshed in Somalia. Together they settled in North London but the following year he was taken into care and spent seven years in various foster homes. Yassin  Hassan Omar is not a UK citizen but in 2000 he was granted a permission to stay in Britain.

Yassin  Hassan Omar regularly attended in Finsbury Park Mosque where the radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri was preaching. He was unemployed and spent most of his time with Muktar Said Ibrahim.  It was in his flat where the London 7/21 bombs were assembled.

Yassin  Hassan Omar s’ £75 a week housing benefit was stopped in May 2005. He got married on 07/17/2005 just four days before the London 7/21 attack. At noon 07/21/2005 Yassin  Hassan Omar tried to trigger a home made bomb that failed in Warren Street.

After the attack Yassin  Hassan Omar fled to Birmingham dressed as a woman with a burka and was arrested in Heybarnes Road, Birmingham, before dawn on 07/27/2005 at about 04:30. The police used a stun gun do detain him as they feared that he was armed with an explosive belt.

The use of the burka in order to evade the Police in UK, by Yassin  Hassan Omar, triggered a public debate in Britain about the use of veil (burka) in Britain in public places.

Yassin  Hassan Omar s’ trial, with other 5 defendants for committing the London 7/21 attack began in London on 01/15/2007.

On 07/11/2007 Yassin  Hassan Omar was sentenced in London to life imprisonment.
