5 BIRMINGHAM MEN ARRESTED OVER TERROR IN U.K – UPDATE

U.K PoliceFive Birmingham men have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences as part of an investigation launched after the recent attacks in Paris and Brussels’ Zaventem Airport, West Midlands Police said on Friday 04/15/2016..

Three men, aged 26, 40 and 59, and a 29-year-old woman, were held in Birmingham on Thursday 04/14/2016 night.

A fourth man, 26, was arrested at Gatwick Airport in the early hours of Friday. Whitehall officials described the arrests as “significant”. It is understood that the man arrested at Gatwick Airport had just arrived on a flight into the U.K originating in North Africa ( Maghreb )

Police say they worked with MI5 and Belgian and French authorities in an operation “to address any associated threat to the UK following the attacks in Europe”. Police say three of the suspects held were arrested under the Terrorism Act, which gives the police 48 hours before they must be charged or released, unless they apply to a magistrate for an extension.

The other two suspects were arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, which gives police 36 hours before they must be charged or released. 

Officers are also searching a number of properties in Birmingham.

These arrests are following up on the UK angle to Europe’s continental Terror attacks. The West Midlands Police are saying that there is no evidence to suggest that an attack was being planned in the UK.

West Midlands Police has previously refused to confirm reports that images of landmarks in Birmingham, including a shopping mall, were found on a mobile phone belonging to one of the Paris ringleaders.  

boufassil—  Two men  and a woman from the Small Heath area of Birmingham have been charged, on Thursday 04/28/2016, with terrorism offences. The three are Mohammed Ali Ahmed (L), 26, Zakaria Boufassil (C), 26, and Soumaya Boufassil (R), 29.  According to the BBC the Boufassil couple are accused of giving Mohamed Abrini £3,000 when he was in Birmingham in 07/2015. Mohammed Ali Ahmed & Zakaria Boufassil, allegedly met Mohamed Abrini at Small Heath Park in Birmingham in last July.

Mohammed Ali Ahme and Zakaria Boufassil are accused of supplying money for terrorism purposes on or before 07/07/2015. 

Mohammed Ali Ahmed is also accused with Soumaya Boufassil of collecting money for terrorism between 01/01/2015 and 04/08/2016.  They are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court in London on Friday 04/29/2016.

A 59-year-old man remains on bail with strict conditions while the investigation continues. The fifth suspect − Fazal Sajjad Younis Khan, 40, also from Small Heath – has been charged with possession of CS spray.
