AZIZJON RAKHMATOV CHARGED IN N.Y WITH AID TO ISIS
–
On Wednesday 05/11/2016 an Uzbek man Azizjon Rakhmatov, 28, has been charged in New York with trying to provide aid to ISIS, prosecutors said. He was charged with allegedly provided money in early 2015 to co-conspirator Akhor Saidakmetov for travel expenses to fly to Turkey, then on to Syria, and to buy a gun for jihad when he arrived overseas. Rakhmatov allegedly had discussions with co-defendant Abror Habibov and Akmal Zakirov, known as the New York Crew, about raising money for Saidakmetov’s trip.
Azizjon Rakhmatov was charged with “conspiring and attempting to provide material support” to I.S.I.S and conspiring to use a firearm, in a case in which four alleged accomplices, the New York Crew, have also been charged.
Authorities said one of the accused co-conspirators, Abdurasul Juraboev, came to the attention of law enforcement after placing a post on an Uzbek-language website in which he offered to engage in acts of martyrdom on USA soil on behalf of ISIS.
Prosecutors said Rakhmatov, the sixth Brooklyn Crew member, who was arrested in early 2015, faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted.
