ISIS OLYMPIC PLOT THWARTED IN BRAZIL
Federal police in Brazil have arrested 10 members of a group alleged to be preparing acts of terrorism during the Olympic Games. Authorities said on Thursday 07/21/2016 .
The authorities said they were not members of so-called Islamic State but had tried to make contact with the group. The arrests were made in the southern state of Parana.
They come just over two weeks before the Olympic Games get under way in Rio de Janeiro.
Justice Minister Alexandre Moraes told a news conference that all those arrested were Brazilian.
A week ago, on Thursday 07/14/2016, the head of a French intelligence agency has said that a Brazilian Islamist militant was plotting an attack against the French delegation at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, probably igniting the wave of arrests in Brazil .
A previously unknown Brazilian group calling itself “Ansar-al-Khilafah Brazil )Soldiers of the Caliphate)” ( see – Jund al-Khilafa ) announced its backing for IS via the messaging app Telegraph on Sunday 07/17/2016.
