SAJIDA MUBARAK ATROUS AL-RISHAWI
Sajida Mubarak Atrous Al-Rishawi wasborn in Iraq in 1970and was married to Ali Hussein Ali al-Shamari. After the USA invasion to Iraq in 03/2003many of her family members joined the Al Qaeda affiliated insurgency in Iraq. There is no information available about whether the couple had children.
Sajida Al-Rishawi’s brother, Mubarak Atrous Al-Rishawi became a lieutenant of Abu Musab al Zarqawi in Iraq and was killed by American forces in Falluja in 04/2004. Another brother was killed also fighting Americans in Iraq (see – Falluja Battle ).
Sajida Al-Rishawi arrived to Jordan with her husband and two others on 11/05/2004 with forged passports. She was a would be suicide bomber designated, with her husband, to Radisson Hotel, where 38 people were killed, most of them in a Palestinian wedding ceremony, in the Amman Bombings on 11/09/2005 evening.
Sajida Al-Rishawi, nick name Um Omaira, failed to detonate her explosive belt after apparently struggling with its primer cord. Noticing his wife struggling, her husband, Ali Hussein Ali al-Shamari, asked her to leave the hotel and then blew himself up. Sajida Al-Rishawi was captured the next day when she tried to flee Jordan back to Iraq.
On 11/13/2005, Sajida Al-Rishawi confessed in a Jordanian TV broadcast and demonstrated how she wore here explosive belt ahead of the attack.
On 09/21/2006 Sajida Al-Rishawi was sentenced to death for her role in the Amman Bombings. Her sentence is, meanwhile uphold. Today (05/2008) Sajida Al-Rishawi is in Jordanian prison. Following the brutal killing of the Jordanian fighter pilot Muath al-Kasaesbeh, probably already in 01/2015, on 02/04/2015 down, Sajida al-Rishawi and another militant, Ziad al-Karbouly, were executed by hanging in Jordan.
