PAKISTAN’S ISLAMIC GROUPS

*Jumaat-Ud-Dawa – In 1987 Hafiz Muhammad Saeed along with some Salafi colleagues founded in Lahore, Pakistan the Jumaat-Ud-Dawa association (known as JUD) and its center – the  Markaz Dawa-Wal-Irshad.

* Jaish-E-Mohammed  — (Army of Muhammad) was formed in 01/31/2000 by Maulana Masood Azhar after he was released from Indian jail, following the Flight 814 hostage deal. See – Jaish-e-Mohammed

* JundAllah – is an organization surfaced in 2003 in Pakistan following the investigation of the bloody attack on a Hazara Shiite Mosque in Quetta, Baluchistan’s capital, on 07/04/2003.

* Harkat-Ul-Mujahideen –- HUM (The Movement of Islamic Holy Warriors) is a Pakistani militant group which operated in Indian Kashmir since 1993 as one of many similar organizations coordinated, most likely, by the notorious Pakistani Intelligence ISI. See – Harkat-ul-Mujahideen

 * Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami – HUJI — is a Pakistani originated terrorist group operating also in Bangladesh. its origin is traced back to the war against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, which ended in 1989. See – HuJI

* Lashkar-E-Jhangvi – LeJ – (the Army of Punjab in Urdu) is a Militant terror Islamic group in Pakistan formed in 1996 by Riaz Basra, who quitted the Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) Sunni sectarian outfit, over differences with his seniors.

* Lashkar-E-Toiba –After the Russians left Afghanistan in 1989 USA abandoned their interest in the area and the infrastructure was left to be used by ISI.

* Tehrik-E-Taleban —  The Taliban branch in Pakistan, is an alliance of over 30 Islamic militant groups, formed in summer 2007, operating all over FATA and NWFP areas of North and West Pakistan.

* Jamaat-e-Islami – – Qazi Hussain Ahmad
