20 KILLED IN ZARANJ, SOUTHWEST AFGHANISTAN

20 people were killed by a suicide bomber, on Tuesday 04/17/2008 evening, in a Sunni Mosque in Zaranj, the capital of Nimroz province, Southwest Afghanistan, on the border with Iran.

On 04/13/2008, 11 were killed in a Taliban attack on their police post in Arghandab district.

The region with a Sunni-Shiaa mixed population is generally one of the calm places outside the Pashtu tribes region where the Taliban has a strong support among the tribesmen. It is assumed that under pressure from NATO-ISAF forces in the neighbor Helmand province some Taliban group shifted there activity to other regions.
