* Tarek Hamdi was born in 1962 in Iraq. He emigrated from Iraq to USA in 1983 on a student visa and eventually married a USA citizen, living in Herndon, North Virginia. Tarek Hamdi ran the International Institute for Islamic Thought branch in Herndon.
In 1994 Tarek Hamdi had been the U.S. representative for the Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights in Saudi Arabia, a London-based organization that has embraced many of Osama Bin Laden’s views.
Tarek Hamdi delivered a satellite phone battery to Osama Bin Laden aide while he was in Afghanistan in 05/28/1998 helping to set up an interview for ABC News with the correspondent John Miller. according to an affidavit by David Kane, an agent with the immigration division. Osama Bin Laden used that phone later in connection with the deadly bombings of USA embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, on 08/07/1998.
The satellite phone itself was purchased by the credit card of Saad Faqih. That satellite phone served as target and direction marker for USA Tomahawk retaliation missiles attack on Al Qaeda bases in Afghanistan few days after the 08/07/1998 attack. When Osama Bin Laden learned that it was his satellite phone that domesticated the American missiles he used the same phone to deceive the American in Tora Bora, in 12/2001.
Tarek Hamdi’s house was searched on 03/20/2002 without any incriminating results. He was indicted in 05/2005 by the USA Immigration and Customs Enforcement division of the Homeland Security Department on series of alleged omissions in Tarek Hamdi’s naturalization papers, as well as information he submitted on mortgage-loan applications.
After the invasion to Iraq, in 03/2003, Tarek Hamdi left USA and returned to Iraq. According to an official statement in court, on 08/09/2005, Tarek Hamdi was lately located in the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara, Turkey’s capital, as an employee of the Iraqi Foreign ministry.
* The American Civil Liberties Union – ACLU, based in California, USA, sued the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, on 06/16/2010, for denying a 50-year-old Egyptian Muslim man’s naturalization application based on misleading FBI files and questionable tactics. They also filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request demanding the Department of Homeland Security provide a full record of all internal policies and practices relating to the treatment of naturalization applicants from Muslim countries – referring specifically to Tarek Hamdi’s case. .
