The 21st Century Phenomenon

A new audiotape, supposed to be with the voice of Osama Bin Laden, was posted on Islamic websites on Friday 05/16/2008 morning.

In the 9 minutes audio, marking Israel’s 60th anniversary, Bin laden pledged to continue fighting the Israelis and not give up “a single inch of Palestine”.

The voice on the tape said the fight for the Palestinian cause was the most important factor driving Al Qaeda’s war with the West, and that it had fuelled The 9/11.

On Sunday 05/18/2008 a second 22 minutes audiotape was broadcasted in which Osama Bin Laden said it was the religious duty of every Muslim to fight Israel’s “oppressive closure” of Gaza. He argued that the Shiite militant group Hizbullah did not really have the strength to take on Israel. Both audiotapes may have been recorded on one occasion, since they deal, almost exclusively, with the same issue – the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Summary ;

* Also at previous time broadcasted massages from Osama Bin Laded were issued in an interval of few days. (See – Audio 03.19.08 )

* There is a significant gape between the well edited half hour video footages broadcasted frequently by Ayman Al Zawahiri, no’ 2 in Al Qaeda so to speak, and the few minutes rarer audiotapes posted in the web of Osama Bin Laden. It is a clear indication that Ayman Al Zawahiri is the real acting leader of Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden is more of a trade mark.

* In Al Qaeda manifesto, published, On 02/23/1998, by Osama bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al Zawahiri under the title “The World Islamic Front for Jihad against the Jews and Crusaders” the issue of occupied Palestine was mentioned in paragraph 11, the last one, and by the way. Al Qaeda was focused on:

A.. On USA presence in the Middle East.  Especially in the Holy Land of Saudi Arabia the Guardian of the two holy places Mecca and Medina.

B. The corrupted Arab regimes, headed by the Saudi Arabia monarchy, that cooperate with the West and defiles the Islam.

* In the many interviews and broadcasted videos and audios, since 1998, Osama Bin Laden, as well as Ayman Al Zawahiri, referred to many issues including the liberation of Al-Andalus – Spain from Christian occupation. Only seldom they were focused on the Palestinian issue.

It seems that Osama Bin Laden tries to capitalize on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and retroactively justify himself.
