FREEDOM OF SPEECH
All radical Islamists, who call for the Islamization of Europe, for Global Jihad in the Western Democracies, in many cases call for violent Jihad and for the killing of non-believers, those who shout in choir in British academia Itbah Al-Yahud (Slaughter the Jews) or advocating the annihilation of Israel, all those who refers regularly to Jews as the “sons of pigs and apes” are doing so under the legal protection of the “freedom of speech” in the European society, although freedom of speech does not include direct incitement to violence.
There is a thin line between advocating non democratic Islamic law to be implemented in Europe, which is and should be protected by the “freedom of speech” and a call to violent actions such as killing Jews and other non-believers or praising those who do such things like Al Qaeda for example. Even the most radical inciters in Europe, who spread hate and discrimination are not persecuted, their life is not threatened and they must not go underground in order to protect themselves from possible assassination.
This is not the case for those who try to put the “freedom of speech” to the test criticizing Islam or to ridicule Islam and the Prophet Mohammad. They are immediately under threat on their life, many times by those who use the freedom of speech to ridicule other faiths, especially Judaism. Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie, a Muslim himself, who wrote in 1988 the book “Satanic Verses” inspired in part by the life of the Prophet Mohammad, was forced to flee for his life for over a decade, with endless Islamic Fatwas which authorized his killing as a commandment,
The Danish Cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, who published in 09/2005 the Muhammad Cartoons in the Danish Jyllands-Posten newspaper, the Dutch politician and parliament member Geert Wilders, the producer of the Fitna-movie, distributed in the web in 04/2008, and the Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, who published in 08/2007 the SWEDISH CARTOON showing the Prophet’s Muhammad’s head on the body of a dog – all need constant police protection to defend their lives. Although the Fitna movie and the cartoons are, indeed, showing the black side of Islam and probably very offensive for the average Muslim – they did not cross, in any way, the line of incitement or did not cross the line of what is accepted in political cartoons in the Western Democracies. The Swedish and Danish government apologized for “offending Islam” and the newspapers were put under public pressure to do so as well. Geert Wilders is now (03/2010) on trial in Amsterdam for “discrimination against Muslims”.
On 11/02/2004 the Dutch film director Theo van Gogh was assassinated in Amsterdam, Holland, for distributing his film “Submission”, the English translation to the word “Islam” in Arabic. The movie dealt with violence against women in Islamic societies, especially the traditional female circumcision, which is very common in North and East Africa (see also – MUSLIM GIRLS RIGHTS). The film did not offend the Islam directly and certainly not the Prophet Muhammad. The film was supported by the Somali-born female feminist Politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who was elected to the lower house of the Dutch parliament on 01/30/2003. She went through a long ordeal of underground life, police protection, political harassment and public alienating (see also – Hofstad Group ).
Just recently the Irish police and the FBI uncovered yet another plot to assassinate the Swedish illustrator Lars Vilks in Sweden. The plot was unique since it was spontaneous and not directed by any specific organization (see – Jihad-Jane and Arrests 03.09.10 ).
It seems Europe is very selective in protecting its basic principle of “freedom of speech” when it comes to European Islamic community and is giving up to Islamic radicalization..
