AL-ZAWAHIRI CRITICIZED EGYPT
In a 11 minutes audio tape placed on the web, on 06/05/2008, Ayman Al Zawahiri, the acting leader of al Qaeda, sharply criticized Egypt for not opening up its border to Palestinians and called for an end to Israel’s economic blockade of the Gaza Strip.
“The brothers from Gaza are refused entry [by Egypt], while an Israeli tourist is allowed to enter Egypt without a visa,” Ayman Al Zawahiri argued and named the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak “criminal traitor”.
In the past years Al Qaeda almost ignored the Israeli-Palestinian conflict while in the last half year the terror organization is focused on the conflict in almost every broadcasted video or audio. It is probably an indication that the initial subjects such as corrupted and pro- American Arab regimes and the permeation of Western culture into the Arab and Muslim society are not appealing any more as they were ten years ago –(See also – Laden 05.16.08 ).
